5 (stop) Signs to look out for when screening online dating profiles

Online dating in Ontario can get confusing - trying to tell the real relationship possibilities from the real hustlers can take a lot of time and energy. Here are five tell-tale signs to stop wasting your time on certain online dating profile users.

1) Their handle boasts promiscuity or the fact they are meant for you
Let's face it. A guy who operates under the handle "BedTiger69" is not going to be taking anyone seriously and who knows how many he's wooed with his self-proclaimed feline sensual abilities.
Another red flag are handles like "Greatgirl4you". How does she know who you are and if she is right for you? Sounds like a gold-digger, or someone who is looking to lose herself in someone else ASAP (crazy).

2) All of their photos are only showing from the neck up and/or with a hat on
Take note when all photos of a profile are conveniently missing areas of the body.  People take a lot of care choosing the photos they want to show the world, so if you get the feeling they are hiding something, you are probably right. Excess weight and baldness are popular items to hide, so beware.

3) Profiles that resemble a thesis
If the profile has paragraphs upon paragraphs of text, the person has no idea who they are, or who they are looking for. The profile owner is confused about themselves and the potential of a relationship that they try to cover all the bases possible to either include everyone, or to exclude everyone. They are probably the type to test you on the first date to see if you read the whole profile - another elimination technique. Sail on by the essay writers.

4) People contacting you who live over an hour's drive away
They are probably cheating on someone.

5) Those who won't meet in person after e-mail exchanges/telephone conversations
Online dating is not for everyone, and it takes a certain risk-taking streak to go through with it. Some people like the idea of meeting singles online in Ontario, or in any place, but do not have the courage to actually go through with meeting in person. Do not take it personally, especially if the online/telephone conversations go well, its them, not you.

Happy online dating!

Play safe,

Heather

  1. Finding out a partner is no doubt, a difficult task. If you are bent on getting the right partner, it is important to remain calm and take your decision, slowly. It is important not to take decisions, hastily. This is the most important part online dating.
