Bending over can be sexy, but not bending over backwards.
Perhaps you have been in a relationship with someone who would sacrifice anything just to make you happy, or maybe the person going above and beyond compromising was you (or still is?). I was reminded of this type of relationship unbalance on my morning commute thanks to today's 24 Hours, the free mini-newspaper, that I grabbed on my way down the Subway.
Even celebrities can be lacking vertebrae when it comes to dating, 24 Hours told Canada this morning that Anne Hathaway was a "desperate dater" in her last relationship - which is one of the reasons why it ended.
"There's something very addictive about people pleasing. It's a thought pattern and a habit that feels really really good until becomes desperate..." Shared Hathaway to Harper's Bazaar Magazine.
It it can't work for Anne, there's not much hope for us commoners either. Recognize when you are trying to 'people please' your way through a relationship and don't be afraid to regain some independence.
Be true to yourself and do what you want to do. If your partner doesn't like it, they aren't for you.
